The euphoria created by the victory of Barack Hussein Obama is yet to subside and I am not sure it will do so sooner. Every newspaper has one thing or the other to write about this history maker and I even read yesterday that babies are now being named Barack Obama all over the world. I am sure some adults will start filing for change of names pretty soon

Since the event of Tuesday, November 4th unfolded, I have been engaging in deep thoughts and asking questions about this man called Obama. Like I love doing, I have been looking for the lessons to learn from all these and I have discovered so much. I am just going to share five(5) with you today and I don’t think I will stop writing about this man for a while.

It has been a worldwide phenomenon that some selected few are chosen to become something in life. I am sure you would have been in a situation, or know someone who was, that you will think of someone being destined to be something that you may never become. Well, Barack has demystifyed that and the major lesson to learn from this is that anyone can dream.

Yes! Anyone can dream! It does not matter who you are, or where you come from, as long as you are living, YOU CAN DREAM!

Years ago, I learnt something from my Social Studies teacher that is now making Sense. The topic was Social Stratification and my teacher mentioned something that has stuck with me for years, since 1991. She said the fact that your parents are in one status does not mean you are bound to be in that status. She made it more interesting by saying the son of a farmer can become a Doctor or any other thing he wishes to be.

WOW! I was spurred by that statement though it made little sense to me then, but I have always been remembering it. Obama was underprivileged in every sense of it, but he chose to DREAM and my friend, we all can see where his dream has led him. You know what? It doesn’t cause a dime to dream and you need not short change yourself by not dream. If you haven’t been dreaming, NOW is the time to start because it will determine where your life will end up years from now. My mentor, Jim Rohn, said five, ten years from now, we will all end up somewhere but the major question is where? Our dream determines the where.

Another lesson I learnt from Obama is that no dream is too big to achieve. If you happen to have been to a village and see how the people there live, you will know it will be very difficult for the son of a farmer to become a Doctor or even the President of a nation, but dreams don’t have corelations with background or circumstances. No matter what we think about, no matter how big it is, we can achieve it! It is as simple as that.

I have used the art of dreaming to bring about so many things in my life. What I am doing now, has been as a result of the dreams I had when I was a nobody. When I was finding it difficult to make ends meet, I was always dreaming and I am NEVER surprised of the result I am getting now. I have listed some of the the things I have been able to do in time past, just browse through the articles on My Story and you will discover them. With Obama’s story coming into the fore, I have started going crazy with my dreams now. In weeks to come, I will share one dream I am having now and I am sure it will leave a lot of people dazed. I am sure of it’s coming to pass as long as I can dream it.

Obama’s dream to so many people was an impossible one, a white elephant project but so was Joseph’s, Ted Turner’s. The Wright Brother’s and so many dreamers’ dreams. Imagine a black guy who happens to be in the minority, 13% of Americans are Blacks, aspiring to the highest post in the land. It is just like a dullard aspiring to come top of the class the next term. This made me remember a guy I went to Secondary School with. He told me, after we left school, that he has always been challenged by those of us that take the lead position in our set. He used to be an unknown quantity when we are in the Junior Secondary School but started dusting everyone right from SSS1. He told me he made up his mind to do all he needs to, to come tops. I was dazed by this and this is dream in ACTION!

I am sure Obama was watching the likes of George Bush (Snr.), Bill Clinton and Bush (Jnr.) and was telling himself, “I can become like this people, they don’t have two heads and I’m not sure they are better than me.” I am sure he started dreaming of being in their class immediately that thought came to his head and look at where the dream has take him to. My friend, anytime a thought comes to your mind, just believe! Don’t wish it away by saying it is impossible because Barack has thought us all that nothing is impossible, no dream is too big to achieve.

I want you to digest these two lessons and I will continue tomorrow with the rest of the lessons. What is it that you have been dreaming about? Do you have any doubt about realising it? Let the life of Barack be an inspiration to you as from now one just believe that you can achieve whatever you dream about, no matter how big it is, no matter what people say or think about it. We all can achieve our dreams. Let me leave you with a quote I discovered after November 4th:

“Always dream and shoot higher than you know you can do. Don’t bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself.” - William Faulkner

This is to you success as you become a BIG dreamer!

Barack Hussein Obama: A Beacon of Hope

The U.S. Presidential Election has come and gone and the lessons will remain with us forever. Looking back to what I have been saying for a while on this blog, I am sure you will now believe me that we all can achieve whatever we want to achieve if only we can believe it is possible.

Barack Hussein Obama came into the race for the White House with nothing but a dream. He started the race as “that one,” an object of ridicule but he never wavered in his desire to become the President of the Greatest Nation on earth, the United States of America. Now we all can see where his dream has led him to.

He stood up against opponents he would normally have been intimidated by their profile. He was definitely a no match for Hillary Clinton or John McCain but he was able to come out to the people as a charismatic leader and someone that knows what he wants. His message of change resonates with what the people desires most and even his critics couldn’t help but admire him.

What I have learnt from my study of dreamers, right from the beginning of the world, is that they get whatsoever they have dared to dream about. No matter how big the dream is, the dreamer will always have it not minding how long it takes. I don’t know how long Obama has been dreaming of occupying the White House, but it is evident that this is a dream he believed in so much and he gave his all to achieve it.

“The whole world stand aside to let him pass, who knows where he is going,” is a saying I heard years ago and it is always coming true in the life of every dreamer. When you declare a dream, people will laugh at you, but if you did not allow that to get to you and stop you from following the dream, you will find out that people that have ridiculed you will later come to applaud you. You must NEVER allow people’s opinion stop you from following your dream.

They laughed at Joseph, Henry Ford, Abraham Lincoln, Napoleon Hill, Walt Disney, Ted Turner, Anita Roddick, Bill Gates, Steve Job and even Brack Obama was ridiculed for daring to dream. If this great people were laughed at, at an early stage, in the pursuit of their dreams, and they eventually achieved their heart desires, the moral of their stories, that we all need to pursue our dreams no matter what the obstacles are, should be held close to our heart.

It cost nothing to dream and if you are going to dream, copy Obama and dream BIG! I have learnt that there is no gain in dreaming small because what ever you dream will surely come to pass. Most of the dreams I had years ago, that I thought were big, have been achieved and I realised I still need BIGGER dreams for the future. I can now borrow a leaf from Obama and even dream BIGGER than I am doing now

Now that you know that there is no dream that is too BIG to achieve, what are you going to do my friend? Will you continue to play small or dream BIG? Will you continue to complain about things you don’t have or circumstances not being in your favour? Do you realise that Obama is an orphan? He lost his father to an automobile accident in the 80s and his mother to cancer in the 90s so what are you complaining about?

Barack Obama has proved to us all that NOTHING is impossible and it is our duty to live with this truth. We have a choice in this matter to continue living without a dream or to pick up a dream and start start pursuing it. Remember, this is just a CHOICE!

Thanks Barack for teaching us this important life lesson. Wishing you well in your drive to take America back to where it belongs!

Some months back, I went to visit one of my mentors, who happens to be a Medical Doctor. He was engaged in some chores when I got there and it took some minutes before I was ushered into his office, which was situated in the same house he stays.

On getting to the reception, there was a couple waiting to see him as well and unknown to me and other guests, the two were deaf and dumb! The doctor went in to attend to a patient and I was left with these couple and another guest that had come to say hello to the Doctor.

Moments later, these couple started playing with themselves. It was noticeable that they both have a strong cord binding the two of them together. It was as if those of us present were of little or no significance in their world.

I was just watching them excitedly and thinking at the same time of the scene playing before me. I had to later join them in their fun despite the fact that I didn’t understand most of what they were communicating. I decided later to let them dwell in their own world and enjoy themselves.

This may sound too familiar a scene to you but how many times have you sat to ponder the significance of such event(s)? The important lessons I have drawn from this is that of adaptability. How many times have we experienced a rough patch on our way to achieving our dreams and feel like throwing in the towel? How many times have things not gone our way and we keep worrying for ages?

We probably have wished the world to be so fair to us that everything should go smoothly for us. When our expectations are not met, we tend to complain for ages. I have learnt that it is actually not what happens to us that matters, it is how we see those things and what we make out of those things. You probably would have heard several times that happiness is a choice.

The deaf couple recreated their world inspite of their diabilities, so can you. No matter what happens to you, you can create your own world out of it and choose to be happy and enjoy yourself. There are so many things you cannot stop from happening and when they happen what do you do? Look out for how you can create your own world out of those situations and enjoy yourself!

My plea to you this year is that you choose happiness no matter what happens to you.

This is to your success this year and beyond.

I was supposed to handle a seminar on the weekend of September 13. I met with the organiser sometime in August and we finalised every thing to do at the meeting. Some days to the day of the seminar, I received a call from the organiser informing me of the cancellation of the event. She told me the patronage has not been encouraging and that she doesn’t want to fail at her first attempt. Putting it in her own words, “it is not good to fail!”

I didn’t know what to say initially and I didn’t want to push a conversation about what she just said because I know people want to conserve the little fund they have on their phone. I started thinking about this immediately she dropped and was wondering if she knew what she has just said and the effect that statement could have on her present and the future.

From the little expeience I have had over the years, I have come to realise that the reason a lot of people do not achieve anything worthwhile in life is due to the fact that people don’t want to experience failure in anything they do, so it is better not to try than fail. This mindset has incapacitated a lot of people and make them stay at a point rather than move forward.

I don’t know what you have wished away just because you don’t want to experience the bitterness of failure but I want to let you know that you have in one way or the other disturbed your growth. What most of us term as failure is not really what we think it is. Failure is something we should all embrace if we are to achieve our dreams because it comes as lessons in disguise.

A top Motivational Speaker said we don’t learn so much from our success but our failures teach us a lot of things. When you succeed, you don’t think so much about the lessons but when you fail now and again, you will learn important lessons why that has happened and you will know what to do the next time.

When Thomas Edison was working on the incadescent lamp, he was trying and trying but couldn’t get the desired breakthrough. People asked him why he kept trying when it was apparent that he was failing over and over again. He replied them that what they termed as failures are positive feedbacks because he is learning how not to do those things and will look for new ways. We are all beneficiaries of Edison’s positive mindset these days.

If those before us have been afraid of failing and never tried, I am not sure we will be experiencing all the technological breakthroughs we are having now. If Henry Ford has been afraid of failing, I am not sure we would have stopped riding chariots as cars today. The aeroplane wouldn’t have been around if the Wright Brothers had feared failure and I am not sure I will be inspiring you today if the fear of failing has been predominant in my life years back.

I wish I could write about all the things I have put my hands into that didn’t work. I wish I could let you into the money I have lost into projects I so much believed in, I wish I could tell you so much about those lofty ideas I conceived with so much enthusiasm but never saw the light of the day. I have learnt not to focus on things that didn’t or will not work out but the things that will eventually work out. Fear of failing doesn’t move me because I know if I fail, I will come out of that situation a BETTER person.

This is the mindset of all achievers and if you want to be an achiever, follow your dreams without minding whether failure is staring you in the eyes or not. When you do that particular thing, you will be motivated to do something bigger and better than what you have done in the past.

My challenge to you this day is never to fear failure and even when it occurs embrace it and look at the important lessons you have learnt and MOVE ON with your life. The next time you try, you won’t repeat the same mistake you made the first time out.

GO OUT THERE AND START FOLLOWING YOUR DREAM TODAY!

There are so many times things dream of accomplishing, never work out the way we wanted. Sometimes, it seems the object of your desire, your dream, may not realize after all. You will get to a point that you will see the dream as an exercise in futility and you begin to contemplate whether it is worth carrying on. All I have to tell you is that you hold on firmly to your dream because it is surely going to come to pass.

Between the point of conceiving a dream and its realization, there is always a time frame. The time frame will depend on how BIG your dream is. if you have a small dream, you won’t have any problem in realizing it but if the reverse is the case, then you will need to exercise patience. Using myself as an example, I first dreamed of writing a book in 2003, but it never came to pass until this year.

What I want you to know is that in realizing your dreams, there will be so many lessons to learn and after mastering those lessons, you may have to adjust your dream. In 2003, I never thought of being on the Internet doing this, but one thing or the other came up along the line and I kept adjusting till I decided to launch my website. if your dream comes to pass immediately after conception, you would have missed lot of opportunities to learn something new and you may not be equally equipped to handle the result on your hand.

So, my friend, see the stage between conception and actualization of your dream as the time of growing in order to match your dream when it come to pass. For the fact that the dream has being conceived, know that it is too late to give up. No dreamer is celebrated when they give up. Those we celebrate today are those who had a dream and trudge on despite all odd.

Remember: QUITTERS DON’T WIN and WINNERS DON’T QUIT.

I’ll see you when you get there.
