Part 1

Part 2

The third phase of my life did not start after I finished school but before I did. The second phase ended the very moment I discovered myself and the latent potentials within me. That was when I decided NEVER to settle for less in my life and also to make the most of all that I have within me.

Big regards to all those that have bothered to comment on my first post in this series. That is so thoughtful of you and I hope you all enjoy today’s post, which takes us through the beginning and the end of the second phase in my life.

My journey through Lagos State University is a very interesting one. I termed this the second phase of my life because it brought me through a lot of realities that I will NEVER forget in my life. In fact, the transformation I experienced started while I was in LASU.

An impossible dream at a time came to a little black child living in an orphanage in Troy, New York. Her name was Dorothy Brown. When Dorothy was five years old, she was taken to a hospital for tonsillectomy. Most youngsters would have been frightened, or at least apprehensive, but Dorothy wasn’t. She was fascinated by the wondrous world of medicine in which she found herself. People helping other people by relieving pain, setting broken bones, curing diseases. Then and there, Dorothy Brown decided that some day she would be part of that world. She was only five years old, but she set a goal for herself: Eventually she would become a doctor.

What’s your dream? Want to give your vision a jumpstart? Write down your goals and use these questions to speed up delivery of your dream.

“How time flies!” Did I hear you say that, when you realised we are now in June?

Time not only flies, but it determines a lot of things in our lives. It was just like yesterday that we were all celebrating and backslapping our friends for seeing the brand new 2008. We made a lot of decisions or should I say resolutions at the beginning of the year. I always wonder at the rate people talk about their New Year Resolution when it is obviouss the resolutions won’t even survive the first month of the year.

As a young graduate, I picked up a book by Robert Kiyosaki called Rich Dad, Poor Dad and one very important advice I got from that book is MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS! Kiyosaki devoted a section of the book to entrepreneurship and reasons people should MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS.

A few years ago, I returned to my impoverished village in Haiti. Many in the village came to see me—the tiny and diseased child they didn’t expect to make it. Some of them used to call me Souyen and kokobay—words that mean “crippled.” A man from the village, Alfred, reminded the people how they treated me. “Today” He said, “He returns as our village hero.”

I am sure you, too, may already be a village hero in your own way. In my case, it was the final result of personal responsibility, and a combination of strategies that prompted Alfred to call me a “Village Hero.” Let me share five of those strategies with you:
