This post commences a marathon of posts I promised the last time and these posts will continue for as long as I am satisfied everyone reading is fully ready and motivated to make this year the best they’ve had so far.

I have observed that people are fired up to make the year a successful one, at the beginning of every year, but along the line something happens and they just lose the steam with which they started the year. I have been there before and I know what it looks like to look back at an outgoing year and wonder where one got it all wrong.

In order to make this year a very successful one, the starting point is determining what you REALLY want to achieve. People who arrive at a destination are those that know where they are going.

If I may ask you, what exactly do you want to achieve this year? What do you really want your life to be like at the end of 2009? What do you want to happen in the course of the year? How much money do you want to make or have in your account by the time December 2009 is rolling out?

To get anything out of life, you must first decide what exactly it is that you want. That is the starting point of every successful achievement. Ask those that are truly successful, they will tell you they know what they want before setting out. These are people like you and I and there is nothing stopping us from achieving much in our lives if we have made up our minds.

Bob Stein, an Actor and Author has this piece of advice for you this year:

“The indispensable first step to getting things you want out of life is this: Decide what you want.”

As you decide what you want this year, I will want to challenge you to DREAM BIG because whether your dreams as big or small, they will come true and it will not be so exciting achieving small dreams. My Pastor, Revd. Sam Adeyemi always say this:

“Plan BIG because BIG plans attract BIG people but small plans attract small people and small people cause BIG problems” :)

If you don’t want to attract BIG problems this year, NOW is the time to dream BIG dreams.

In rounding up, I will like to share a piece I read in a book, Chicken Soup for the Soul, written by Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen. I have been reading this piece for a while and it has ALWAYS being a source of inspiration to me and I am sure it will arouse the desire to ALWAYS dream BIG within you:

“Always dream and shoot higher than you know you can do. Don’t bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself – William Faulkner

When the two of us decide to write Chicken Soup for the Soul, we had big dream. We wanted to create a book that would change millions of lives. Our dream was to sell 150,000 copies the first year and a million copies by the end of the following year.

We were thinking number one on the bestseller lists from the very beginning. We wanted to touch as many lives as possible-to make a big difference in the world. Our corporate mission statement is to inspire and empower people to live their highest vision in a context of love and joy. Through the Chicken Soup for the Soul books we wanted to heal and change the world one story at a time. It was a big dream.

Later, after selling 50 millions books, we decided to make the dream bigger. We created what we call our ‘2020 Vision’ – to sell one billion Chicken Soup for the Soul books worldwide and raise 500 million dollars for charity by the year 2020. So far we are approaching 70 titles with almost 90 million copies sold in 39 languages, and almost 4 million dollars contributed to charity…

We have learnt that as soon as you commit to a big dream and really go after it, not only will your creative mind come up with big ideas to make it happen, you will start attracting the people you need into your life to make your dream come true. Big dream inspire you and others to want to play all out. So let you dreams be as big as you want them to be.”

Need I say more?

This is just the beginning, the second post in this series will be another life-changing one and if it is your desire to make this year a GREAT one, you shouldn’t miss any of the posts.

Make it a WONDERFUL year! ;)
