Nigeria at 47: The Path To Change.

Our dearest country, Nigeria, clocked 47 years as an independent nation today. There are so many divergent views on how we have fared in the past 47 years. My own take is that whatever has happened in the last 47 years has become HISTORY. We can only look forward with so much hope considering all that is happening at this present time.

I was preparing to have a long post about how I think we can move forward to fulfill the potentials we have to be a GREAT nation, I saw a post by one of my online friends and I decided to share it with us all. There has always been talks about our country not being useful to us and so many other stuffs, but this article will get us thinking towards another direction.

“How Can I Serve?”

Those are the words Dr. Wayne Dyer meditates .. he goes on stage for his seminars. Then he proceeds to provide life changing energy to those fortunate enough to be in his presence.

I love the fact that Wayne Dyer takes the focus off himself and his own needs before he goes on. And I especially love the fact that as the result of wanting to serve he is in turn served to the tune of millions of dollars a year. He earns every bit of the abundance that comes to him.

I see so many around me who are so unhappy. There are lots of individual circumstances that cause that kind of unhappiness, but I think most of the reasons can be boiled down to an unhealthy fixation on our own circumstances.

Or more specifically many people choose to focus on the negative aspects of whatever situation they’re in.

One of the things I’ve done as an educator is pair up older and younger students in tutoring situations. Time after time I see older kids who are struggling in school light up like Christmas trees when they have the opportunity to be of service.

So many good things happen. Helping someone else takes their mind off their own problems. It also gives a sense of competence when you know the answer to something and can communicate it to someone else.

And maybe the most important…the sense of appreciation you get from another is such a RUSH, it makes you want more. There is incredible power in providing service to others.

And believe it or not, once you give help to someone else, you tend to become more willing to ACCEPT help…in a very real sense.

Next time you feel yourself slipping into self doubt or even self pity stop for a moment.

Ask yourself…How Can I Serve?

Then step back and get ready for some personal miracles.

I am sure this article got you thinking. There is a popular saying I love so much, “Don’t ask what your country can do for you, always ask what you can do for your country.”
